PRP/PRF
WHAT IS Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?
PRP is a natural product created using your own body’s cells. A small amount of blood is drawn and placed in a sterile tube containing sodium citrate (an anticoagulant) that is spun around in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma. This plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP. Therapeutic PRP contains 1 million platelets or more per microliter while normal platelet counts in blood are average about 200,000. Highly concentrated growth factors in the form of platelets and fibrin have been shown to generate new collagen, elastin, and endothelial growth factors, as well as new hair follicles leading to healthy roots improved hair thickness. Skin cells and Hair follicles survive on the nutrition they get from blood supply.
WHAT IS Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)?
PRF is also a natural product created using your own body’s cells. A small amount of blood is drawn and placed in a sterile tube (without anticoagulants) that is spun around in a centrifuge at a very slow speed to separate the different components of the blood. The fibrin is left intact with the plasma containing high levels of this cellular scaffold, or PRF.
THE HISTORY OF PRP/F TREATMENT
PRP/F has a long history of being used in orthopedic medicine, dentistry, and reconstructive surgery, and now its benefits are being applied to other fields of medicine such as dermatology, skin healing, hair restoration, and cosmetic facial rejuvenation. Scientific studies dating back 30 years have documented that PRP/F grows new collagen and stimulates the genesis of blood vessels when injected into the skin, and newer studies show that PRP/F treatment or the commonly named vampire facial can soften environmental damage and aging skin issues.
WHY PLATELETS REJUVENATE SKIN?
Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue to heal and grow new cells. The PRP treatment, injected into specific areas of the skin, acts as a matrix that promotes your own collagen to grow, regenerates tissue, naturally smooths and tightens the skin, all resulting in significant improvement of the quality of the skin condition. The so-called vampire facial is a simple, reliable and quick procedure which can be done during lunch time within 30 minutes. It is all natural, utilizing your own growth factors with no synthetic products or surgery. Your own blood does the job; this procedure does not cause bumps, lumps or irregularities.

FACIAL REJUVENATION - THE RESULTS
The goal of PRP skin rejuvenation therapy is to improve skin tone and texture, tighten skin, as well as soften lines and pores. Results begin to show 3-4 weeks after the treatment session and continue to improve with time. Three treatment sessions are generally recommended, spaced 1-2 months apart, to achieve the best outcome. PRP treatment can be combined with dermal filler, BOTOX, and microneedling to target a patient’s individual issues and achieve the final goal of younger and brighter looking skin. Maintenance PRP treatments should be given over time.
HAIR LOSS
Hair loss can affect just your scalp or your entire body. It can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or medications. Anyone can experience hair loss, but it's more common in men. Hair loss or hair thinning is quite common and there are many reasons why it may occurs - post partum hormonal changes, medications, aging, traction alopecia. The hair grows in a cycle divided into three phases. The final stage is when a hair follicle enters a resting phase after which it falls. Then the cycle should begin again in the same follicle. When the cycle fails to repeat, then the person experiences loss of hair.
As we age, we start to notice a change in our hair volume. Fortunately, Platelet Rich Plasma/Fibrin therapy can help people treat and their balding scalp or thinning hair.
PRP/F therapy has been proven to be beneficial in growing hair and also preventing the loss of hair from the scalp. Furthermore, both PRP and PRF therapies have been known to be more effective than minoxidil.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP Therapy)
How is PRP extracted?
The blood is taken from the patient and then centrifuged. During this step, the dense substances present inside the blood settle at the bottom of the tube while the less dense part floats on top in a test tube. In this way, the components of blood are separated and plasma-rich platelets (PRP) are attained. The addition of an anti-coagulant leads to the formation of plasma-rich fibrin (PRP).
• How is PRP done?
A syringe is filled with platelet-rich plasma, which is then injected into the scalp. Simple as that!
• Is PRP therapy effective?
PRP therapy has been proven to be beneficial in growing hair and also preventing the loss of hair from the scalp. Furthermore, PRP therapy has been known to be more effective than minoxidil.
You get to have healthier and thicker hair! Note that it takes about 1-3 months for the hair to grow after the therapy.
• Does PRP have any side effects?
PRP therapy comes with some side effects that include mild pain at the site of the injection and the scalp may become tender for some time.
Plasma-Rich Fibrin (PRF Therapy)
How long will the results last?
For optimum results, we recommend a course of 3-4 treatments once every 3 weeks for the three months. Once you complete the recommended course, the results can last from 12-18 months. What about maintenance? In order to keep the results maintenance treatments are needed generally once every 4 to 4 months.
Fibrin mesh trapping large quantities of platelets leads to the formation of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). The purpose of PRF therapy is to enhance the process of healing. However, PRF also enjoys its role in treating loss of hair.
• Benefits of PRF therapy?
1. The PRF therapy works best if it is started within five years of loss of hair. The earlier, the better!
2. Helps in growing hair back, especially loss of hair as a result of androgenic alopecia which is the most common cause of loss of hair.
3. PRF treats the thinning of hair caused by repeated hairstyles that pull hair.
4. Helps in the growth of hair that has undergone an inhibited phase.
• Does PRF have any side effects?
The process of PRF therapy involves the use of injections and you may experience pain, slight bleeding, or irritation at the site of injection.
